28/02/2008: Destination Playstation : Metal Gear Facts Explosion

Well this years event "Destination Playstation" seems to have been the place Konami & Kojima Productions have decided to announce all the important product facts in one massive press fest!

I'll start with dealing with the big thing you all want to know... METAL GEAR SOLID 4's RELEASE DATE!

It was confirmed to be 12th June 2008 SIMULTANIOUSLY WORLDWIDE! (First appeared in Dengekl Playstation)

Now to other facts the game will come in 4 variants!

  • Regular Edition

Regular Edition

  • Limited Edition
The Limited Edition comes with a bonus Blue Ray disk, it currently stated as having a making of and all the trailers for MGS4 in High Definition.

Limited Edition

  • Console Package
The Console Package is currently only America specific, the box will contain a 80Gb Playstation 3 complete with PS2 Firmware installed to play all prior MGS games and more...
The version of Metal Gear Solid 4 to be included is to be confirmed but it also comes with a Dual Shock 3!

Console Edition

  • Premium Package
The Premium Edition we sadly have little to no information on, however it will be Japan only, restricted to 1,500 units and will also contain the bonus making of Blue Ray from the Limited Edition

Sadly Metal Gears Voice Over's & Subtitles will be region specific so if you want Japanese you'll have to import, this is due to believe it or not reaching the capacity of the Blue Ray Disk!

To celebrate the announcement Kojima Productions have re-released the Metal Gear Solid 4 website.
Also during the latest podcast (#81) Ryan let slip that similiar to MGS2 & MGSTS their will be collectable items to found throughout the game! Impossible to see normally they will only be seen while in Solid Eye mode
(Which he confirms has a battery) Tho he didn't reveal what the collectables will be or would do, Ryan said a tester failed in 3 wholes days! to complete the game!

Pre-orders are schedualed to begin 21st March, you will recieve as a bonus disk of Metal Gear Saga V2! & the best thing is this will come out in America & Europe!

"Beginning April 2008, consumers that pre-order Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will receive the Metal Gear Saga 2.0 DVD, containing a Prologue that recaps the Metal Gear franchise, a 20th Anniversary retrospective, character bios for Big Boss, Liquid Snake, Solidus Snake, and Solid Snake, plus a collection of international trailers of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. This pre-order package also contains an insert with a download code and special instructions for accessing the Metal Gear Online beta test when it goes live in late April."

For those who didn't know this was supplied wth Metal Gear 20th Anniversary Collection in Japan.
Those who want to watch it now and not wait, here is a translated version thanks to my friends at TUS & Junker HQ

Now to move onto Metal Gear Online! I am pleased to confirm as it stated above that the Beta will be coming to the Europe & America in Late April, tho specifics of what map will be in the beta are yet to be confirmed.
In Japan their will be an OPEN BETA! So those who don't want to pre-order Metal Gear Solid 4 need to set themselves up with a Japanese account on Playstation Network (I use one myself quite regulary)

When Metal Gear Solid 4 is released the Metal Gear Online starter pack will contain 5 maps:

  • Ambush Alley
A corner of a war-shattered town littered with obstacles, its central intersection branching off into side streets.
This was the map used in the Japanese Beta test last year.

Ambush Alley

  • Gronznyi Grad
The now abandoned weapons factory that housed the Shagohod in Metal Gear Solid 3.
Contains open areas offering unobstructed views as well as indoor and rooftop locations.
Its quite a surprise to see such a huge map, in Metal Gear Solid 3 this was 4 sections!

Gronznyi Grad

  • Midtown Meltdown
This Middle Eastern battleground features avenues crisscrossed with alleyways.
A revamp of MGO's "Brown Town".

Midtown Meltdown

  • Urban Ultimatum
Negotiate buildings of varying height in this city under siege.
The best map from MGO "City Under Siege" is back with a revamped design.

Urban Ultimatum

  • Blood Bath
A kill house consisting of both surface and underground areas.
A new version of "Kill House" theirs alot more cover in this version.

Blood Bath
