NEW AN IMPROVED VERSION 2

Know your Surroundings
Essential if your planning to master combat and kills. The Maps should be studied well and finding good locations to hide, flank or snipe is well advised.

Taking Cover
An essential skill to master as you can pop from a corner, box, behind a tree and launch a surprise attack on an unsuspecting soldier, keeping in the cover areas ensures that if theirs retaliation you are able to quickly escape their fire.

Corner Shooting
Leaning on a corner and shooting from the this position is an amateur mistake, it leaves you wide open to attack and you can't move quickly. The best course of action is to stand / crouch facing the wall and use the L1 & R1 buttons to pop out of cover to shoot. This allows for a quick return to cover if you find yourself in a bad situation.

Taking the High Ground
Most players favourite homes its ensures that you have fewer places to cover and good marksman can get headshots from the unlucky people below. True MGO players should not do this as its unsportsman and shows poor talent. Besides the maps are designed in a way that if you roof camp other players below are able to find and kill you rather easily...

Weapon Selection
Your arms consist of:

  • Primary Weapon (Scorpion, XM16E1, AK-47, M37, SVD & Mosin Nagant) #One Off#
  • Secondary Weapon (M1911A1 & MK-22) #One Off#
  • Explosives (M-15, Chaff, Smoke, Stun, WP Grenades & Claymore) Misc (Magazine) #One Off#
  • Standard Items (CQC Knife, Map, View from Cameras, Cardboard Box)

Around the maps their are a number of one off items, these appear in random locations every round

  • M63
  • Flame Thrower (You have to stand still when using)
  • RPG-7
  • Thermal Goggles (Essential for the Sneaking Mission)

The Best Weapon Combinations

  • Sharp Shooters Choice - SVD, M1911A1 & Claymore
  • Terminators Choice - M37, MK-22, Stun Grenade
  • Assaulters Choice - XM16E1 / AK-47, M1911A1 & WP Grenade
  • Beginners Choice - Scorpion, M1911A1 & Grenade

CQC Assault
The best method is to carry your Secondary Weapon (Chosing the SVD automatically presets you from the start of the game) take the target from a side ways angle for maximum avoidance of gun fire, like with Volgins battle if you do a roll attack straight after they may have lost enough energy to get knocked out, then its a simple case of capping them. This skill is especially useful in the Sneaking missions where one slam from Snake can knock you out cold... This method isn't advised in Deathmatch or Rescue... Unless you are Reiko or Raikov.

Knife Master
A great skill to know is the knife assault, but only do this when theirs one enemy in the area (For now...) first off slam or roll attack an enemy, then kneel and do a knife combo, do it right they'll fall again and by the 2nd attack their dead. and you look cool.

Waking from a Stunning
This is a skill few know how to get out of quickly... Its a simple case of rotating the sticks as quickly as possible, this can get you back up again in roughly 10-15 seconds.

Target the Enemy
The online mode features a special lock "L1", this can allow a player to perminatly fire directly at a highlighted enemy, their are however 2 problems, you move slower and you have to get your camera view correct to get the lock on to work other wise you look a dunce shooting at a wall away from the enemy.

Cardboard Box
Kojima Productions favourite item and thanks to their random locations hard to tell which has no one inside, the only problem with this item is if you are seen on the move you have no defence from enemy fire and they can use their lock on. It also allows you to run up stairs, which also makes the enemy think your somewhere else if they hear you.

Magazine's
Regarded by many as a powerful weapon, fortunatly to escape its grip is rather easy, you need to repeatedly press the "R2" button and you quickly move off.

Energy / Health Bars
At the point of starting off you have full bars. Your Energy can be taken down, by constant running, CQC attacks and MK-22 shots. If you reach ZERO you become knocked out, this can be raised by the food rations located throughout the map. In the case of your health this can not be raised like in MGS3, so scoping ahead to protect your health is essential.

Ranking Tags
Depending oh how well you play, you are awared a tag such as "Tarantula" and "Fox". These are based on how sucessful you are in combat and if you make alot of headshots. It must be noted, that the use of the Scorpion Gun will lower your Tag so its should be used as little as possible.

My Personal Way of Playing
Well I've played over a days worth of MGO now and I'm finnally seeing how to master the game. Working as a team of 2-3 is essential for success, taking cover and giving orders allows for a more organised assault. The Cardboard box is still an invaluble item, its allows for better cover behind metal crates and gives surprise attacks a whole new meaning. Positioning is also key I've found placing yourself in a well hidden location just by the enemies home gives you a better idea of their tactics and when to spring from your cover. AWP'ing isn't something I like doing anymore I find alot of joy now in honourable 1 v 1 Pistol / Knife combat and I especially respect the player "No_Rulz" for that. Nothing beats killing consecutively pistol louts with only a knife!

Sneaking Missions now have a better meaning to me, its a way of testing myself on the maps trying to out smart and out think the other players. Also killing droves as I run with the microfilm is indeed a laugh...

My biggest tip for now is MASTER CORNER SHOOTING.
